Reading Notes: PDE Mahabharata Part C

The book that I choose to write my notes is on Public Domain Edition Mahabharata.  From reading part C, I took notes on chapter 57 and chapter 60. Chapter 57 is called Krishna and Karna. This chapter is all about Krishna and Kunti mother of Pandavas trying to talk to Karna to leave Duryodhana side and join the Pandavas side in the war. My favorite character of this chapter is Karna because of he loyalty to his friend even when they are in trouble that what I admire about him. He even didn’t change side after he found out that his mother was Kunti the mother of Pandavas because when she abandoned him only Duryodhana was his friend in childhood and help him through trouble, so he didn’t listen to his mother too. He did promise his mother that he wouldn’t kill Yudhishthira, Bhima, Nakula, and Sahadeva if he fought them on the battlefield but he had to kill Arjuna because he vows to kill him on the battlefield. He was a man who was loyal and dutiful and for that, I really like this character in Mahabharata. I would definitely use him in my story because of his character.

The second chapter that I took notes on is chapter 60 and it name is The Battle Begins. This chapter is all about the war just starting between Pandavas and Kauravas.  I like the action scene in where Bhishma goes to attack upon the Pandava army and also fight Arjuna. It goes like this, “Then Bhishma advanced to make fierce attack upon the Pandava army. Victoriously he went, cutting a blood-red path through the stricken legions; none could resist him for a time. The heart of Arjuna was filled with shame, and he rode against Bhishma, whose advance was stayed. The two heroes fought desperately until dusk. Then Bhishma retired, but Arjuna followed him, and pressed into the heart of the Kaurava host, achieving great slaughter. The truce was sounded, and the first day's battle came to an end.” That was really brutal scene when Bhishma attack the Pandava army and you can just picture it.
